Throughout Frank Kissi’s life, there hasn’t been a single moment where he hasn’t been passionate about music. Music has without a doubt influenced most of the decisions that made him who he is now. He’s come across a lot of instruments throughout his years in the music industry but the one he fell in love with, the one he’s most passionate about, the one that his entire career revolves around, is the drums. Since the early age of 9, he’s always exhibited a love for them. Being allowed to play for his church during services at that tender age was but a stepping stone to where even he didn’t know he would be today; being one of the most recognized and revered instrumentalists of his generation
Frank with his proven skills, went on his first tour at the age of 19 with the Mpese Mpese band in Belgium for 3 months. His dynamism made it easy for him to be contracted by almost every well-known artist in Ghana.
He won the VGMA Instrumentalist of the Year 2015 and also won the 2003 Seval Awards. Frank was featured on CNN’s ‘African Voices’ in the year, 2016.
Kojo Antwi, Gyedu Blay Ambulley, Mac Tontoh(Late), Jane & Bernice, Dela, Muhammad Alidu, Stevo, Thomas Dobler, etc… are some of the prominent musicians he’s worked with.
In the world of Jazz, Frank Kissi has worked with the likes of Barry Finnerty, Colter Harper, Benjamin Boone, Godwin Louis, Sean Nowell, Stephanie Lottermoser (German saxophonist), Bruce Harris, and other world-class musicians such as Etienne Mbape (Bassist), Andy Narell, a steel drum player, Jeff Kashiwa (Saxophonist), Bruce Harris, a Trumpeter and Peter Somuah, also a Trumpeter.
He also played with South African artists like the great Hugh Masekela, Tumi, Lira, Garth Taylor, and Ernie Smith. Not forgetting, Nicolas Genest, Native Vibes, and many more.
Some of the many artists Frank has played with on stage and/or in the recording studio include Kojo Antwi, Ofie Kudjoe, Sandra Huson, Daddy Lumba, Efya, Becca, Jane & Bernice, Kris Bediako, Rex Omar, Amandzeba, Bessa Simons, the late Mac Tontoh, Raquel, Yaw Sarpong, Atongo Zimba, Ofori Amponsah, Kwabena Kwabena, Kidi, Kuami Eugene, and many others.
He is a member of the the Ghana Jazz Collective Band he also leads the Electric Band.
Frank Kissi does studio recording sessions, plays live band events, and also offers training to individuals/groups interested in learning drumming. In June 2024, He visited Grahamstown in South Africa for a Jazz festival with the Ghana Jazz Collective Bandand went on a music tour in London with Daddy Lumba afterward.
He is a Ghanaian from the Eastern Region and a devoted Christian.
